Timing is everything when it comes to injury claims. Nevada law sets strict deadlines that can affect your ability to recover compensation — and missing them could cost you your case.
How Long Do You Have to File a Claim in Nevada?
If you’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence — such as in a car accident, slip and fall, or other personal injury incident — you generally have 2 years from the date of the injury to file a lawsuit. Some exceptions apply:
- Claims against a government entity may require notice within six months.
- Wrongful death claims also follow the 2-year rule, starting from the date of death.
Personal Injury Claims
Work-related injuries come with even tighter timelines:
- You must notify your employer within 7 days of the injury by completing a C-1 Form.
- A medical provider must file a C-4 Form within 90 days of your injury or the date you first sought treatment.
- If your claim is denied, you typically have 70 days to file an appeal.
